DANNY BALIS / DOUG BURR / GLEN FARRIS -- SUICIDE SONGSWAP @ DAN'S AUGUST 4th

This Wednesday August 4th, Danny Balis, Doug Burr and I will be sharing the stage starting at 10pm swapping songs until they kick us out.

It's 3 bucks and pretty intense if you're into songwriting.  These two fellas are local powerhouse sad song writers and taught me everything I know so it's a real honor and pleasure to share the stage with them this Wendesday.

NEW RECORDING & MAY 21st @ DAN'S SILVERLEAF

Thanks to all of you guys who've been emailing me about that Hailey's show a few weeks back - it's really great to hear some feedback from all of yall so keep it up / spread the word (glenfarris@gmail.com).

I recorded this song a few weeks ago with Michael Briggs of Gutterth (http://gutterth.com).  Stay tuned for a possible EP release from these guys.  I'll be recording with every spare minute I've got till it get's done and into your hands.  But for now - here's a little snippet of things to come:

Glen Farris - Before I Break by GlenFarris

I'm playing a Denton show next Friday, May 21st opening for Doug Burr's CD release & Telegraph Canyon.

Here's a promo video for the Doug Burr record, O Ye Devastator.

I look like:

a) I just strangled someone

b) someone tried to strangle me

c) this was take 35

d) I'm about to pass out from hyperthermia

This Saturday 5/1: The Spune 2k10 Finals

This is huge.  I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true.  It's a huge honor to be playing this lineup.  I'll go on this Saturday 5/1 at Hailey's at 10pm sharp followed by the guy who, everytime I hear him, makes me want to never play another note The Tallest Man On Earth.

Plus Dosh is headlining.  I told you, this is huge.

NX35: DAYPANEL // THE EVER-CHANGING LIVE MUSIC LANDSCAPE IN DFW

Today at 1pm I'll be speaking on a panel at Sweetwater about the local live music.  Come drop in and ask the tough questions.  I'll give you the tough answers.  Just remember sometimes the truth hurts.

Here's the official lineup:

Moderator: Michael Seman, Research Associate, Institute of Urban Studies, University of Texas at Arlington
Participants: Josh Baish, Owner, Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios
Michael Briggs, Co-owner, Gutterth Productions
Glen Farris, Booking Agent: Spune Productions
Brent Frishman:, Co-owner, Gutterth Productions
Charlie Hunter, Owner/Operator: The Schoolhouse
Jason Reichl, Owner/Operator: The Handsome Kitten
Yeahdef, Promoter, Booking Agent, DJ

This is a pretty standup group of folks I get to be chatting with this afternoon.  The most important underlying issue at stake here will be if I get a basket of pickle chips or go for the jalepeno poppers - both are pretty good there at Sweetwater.

I'M OPENING NX35 TODAY - 8pm @ SWEETWATER

In the footsteps of Richie Havens (Woodstock), The Who (Monterrey Pop Festival), Santana (Altomont Speedway) and 3 (Woodstock '94), today at approximately 8pm at Sweetwater, I will be openeing the 2010 NX35 Music Conferrette.

These will be tough footsteps to fill.  But I will fill them with easily because the boots I'm wearing right now are even a little too big for my own feet so I figure yeah, I can fill those footsteps.  And just like The Who, who won a coin toss with Jimi Hendrix because neither wanted to play after the other at Monterrey Pop Festival, I too have also won a coin toss - against myself - on wether to eat the squash enchiladas or just get a veggie burger with cheese at Sweetwater after I play.  I hope to see some of yall out there at 8pm (approximately).

Home Sessions tonight @ City Tavern w/ Doug Burr / Seryn

So tonight I'm backing up Doug Burr with 2 fifths of Seryn at City Tavern tonight in Dallas.  It's a series John Solis has put together called Home Sessions which I played a few weeks ago (see pics from the previous post).

From the site:

  1. March 10

    Doug Burr

“Doug Burr wades with distinctive voice, guitar and various instruments between love, loss, simple beauty and historical disaster. But, despite the weight of the topic, Burr’s monumental achievement is somehow developing each song into a perfectly dynamic composition from instrument to harmony without ever overworking a theme, a word or a bridge.” - Dallas Observer

    Seryn

“I found myself craving more when their set ended. Like ice cold water on a hot day, their music is crisp and refreshing, and I cannot get enough. The imagery packed into their set is unreal. Its like listening to the soundtrack of a great love story, breathtaking drama, and a dark tragedy all rolled into one over-the-top, unparalleled performance. It is big and beautiful and should be experienced live.” - Pegasusnews.com

Keep checking in for dates and performance times for sx / nx performances.  Plus I'm on a day panel for nx on Saturday entitled The Ever Changing Live Music Landscape in DFW where my position will be "Yes, it is".

CITY TAVERN - by ANDREW SHEPARD

Here are some pictures snapped by the talented Andrew Shepard from this Wednesdays Home Sessions at City Tavern.  I've been playing that upstairs room since probably 2006 so I've really seen it come into it's own as a venue.  They recorded the entire set which should be posted next week sometime.

I'll be playing Home Sessions at City Tavern with Doug Burr and Seryn on March 10th
